Puma represents a brand that is well known and that is pretty much everywhere. We’re talking: collabs with athletes and singers, with pop fashion icons and brands around the world. It is very recognizable and has a few key silhouettes that we are convinced you are already very familiar with. However, their infallible superstar is the Suede Classic Trainer.
History class is now in session. So, listen up. In 1924, Rudolf and Adolf Dassler founded the Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory), but after one too many fights, they decided to split up and each start a new brand on their own. Adolf founded adidas, while Rudolf went with Puma. Not bad, brothers, not bad. Fast-forward to a couple of years later, when Puma released the Suede Classic in 1968. It quickly became the trend-setters’ new fave. The thick rubber sole and rounded silhouette charmed everyone and was adopted by athletes right away, and then later by street artists and punk rockers in the 80s and 90s. And now for part two of our history lesson. Do you remember Tommie Smith and John Carlos and their 1968 Olympics Black Power salute? Did you ever notice what accompanied them on the podium? A pair of Suede Classic Trainers. It doesn’t get more iconic than this shoe, now does it? As the years went by, the Puma Suede line remained a staple and when Rihanna was named Creative Director for the womenswear line, it came back stronger than ever. Today, Puma offers their renowned take on suede in so many styles, there really is something for everyone: the Platform Trace, a pair of slides or sneakers with velcros. We can’t get enough of their rich suede we love it!
