With more than 247 years of experience in the art of shoemaking, the basic philosophy behind every Birkenstock generation is to use nature as a guide in order to promote and preserve the foot's natural role.

What are the different Birkenstock styles?

Birkenstock has been around for a very long time and has accumulated a variety of silhouettes over the years that have become timeless classics. Birkenstock reinvent themselves by playing around with new features, materials and colorways giving freshness to their beloved classics. The most popular styles are the Arizona, Gizeh, Boston and Madrid.

Birkenstock narrow vs regular fit?

While trying Birkenstock sandals, if your foot moves side to side when walking in a regular fit style and adjusting the straps does not help, we recommend the narrow fit that are made for slim feet. If your foot overlaps on the side edges of the footbed, we recommend the regular fit styles.

How should Birkenstocks fit?

There are two main features to consider for the perfect Birkenstock fit; the footbed and the strap adjustment. The contour of the footbed should correspond to your own arch and the toe bar should fit comfortably beneath your toes, where your toes meet your foot. You should have approximately 1 cm space in front of your toes and 0.5 cm behind the heel and your foot should not overlap on the edges of the footbed. For the perfect strap fit, there should be 0.5 to 1 cm between the straps and the top of the foot (instep) so your heel can detach from the footbed with every step.

Are Birkenstocks comfy?

Birkenstock's iconic contoured cork footbed may feel stiff and strange at first. The best way to get used to Birkenstock sandals is to begin slowly by walking around with them at home until the footbed begins to soften. Once they soften, they will mold to the shape of your foot and become one of your most comfortable sandals you own.

Are Birkenstocks sustainable?

Birkenstock products are extremely durable, making them sustainable by nature. In addition, a high proportion of the common materials used in Birkenstocks are from sustainable resources: cork, natural latex, jute, leather, wool felt, copper and brass.

Is Birkenstock true to size?

Birkenstock tend to run big so we usually recommend to size down. Unfortunately, Birkenstock sandals do not come in half sizes so to be sure to find the perfect fit, come visit us at one of our Little Burgundy store locations accross Canada!

What Birkenstocks are vegan?

The certified Vegan Birkenstocks are the ones made of Birko-Flor and Birkibuc - soft synthetic materials which are leather and nubuck alternatives. The signature footbed is still made out of sustainable materials: Cork and Jute and the lining has been substituted for microfibers. All the adhesives are 98% water-based. Check out our Birkenstock collection and make sure to keep an eye out for the vegan tag to identifie them right here at Little Burgundy.

Do Birkenstocks stretch?

Birkenstock's footbed soften and mold to the shape of your foot over time. After a couple of wears, the straps might need readjusting as they tend to stretch a little as well.
