What is your biggest inspiration when producing new music? I’d say my imagination, my emotions and memories; some sort of phenomenology. LB used your beat Get Up & Jam for its SS23 campaign. What was the process behind creating this beat? It’s a track I had initially made to make people dance and get active in a funky energetic way. The brass horns takes us back to yesterday and the thumpin’ 808 drums drive us back to today. The mix of it all is future proof. Describe your music style in 3 words. Epic, Nostalgic, Futuristic What should people expect from your album Battle Anthems 3? Battle Anthems is an EP series, made of beats or songs I’ve been testing and playing at dance battle events around the world. A concentrated ensemble of tracks, there to stimulate the body mover’s psyche. Like the previous edition, the 3rd installment will have featurings, this time from lyricists to beatmakers from Montreal and abroad. |

Did you always know that you wanted to produce and compose music? No I didn’t. If it wasn’t for my dad playing classical guitar and bringing home music records, or my older cousins who introduced me to hip hop culture through dubbed cassette tapes when I was a young boy, I would’ve probably been in visual arts because drawing was my first talent. My parents vouched for an architect, but I was way too inspired by cartoons and comics, martial arts, video games and exotic sports cars. Which aspects of your art or your career energize/motivate you the most? The realization of an idea/project, may it be my own or collaborative work. How do you stay creative? By being myself, an open minded and curious individual. If you could give one piece of advice to the young Shash’U, what would it be? Look both ways before making a decision and don’t compare yourself too much. |
If you could choose one pair of shoes from LB, which one would it be?
