Celebrating individuality

AS WE ARE STILL IN FULL WINTER MODE AND WHILE IT'S STILL TIME TO CURL UP WITH A COZY BLANKET, WE WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT THE TIMELESS STYLES FROM UGG. WE DECIDED TO HONOUR THE SPIRIT OF INDIVIDUALITY WITH A PHOTOSHOOT FEATURING JULIANNE CÔTÉ, A FRENCH-CANADIAN ACTRESS AND SCREENWRITER.

UGG has been around since the late 70’s but the brand reached its peak notoriety in the 2000s with the signature sheepskin boots, a celebrity style staple. The real fashion enthusiasts were pairing the boots with low rise jeans or Juicy Couture sweats! For this photoshoot, we really wanted to reflect on the brand’s memorable styles.

Julianne Côté, our model for this project, was an inspiration for a young generation that watched Ramdan, a popular French Canadian TV show. We also saw her a few years later in multiple movies and TV shows, including the movie You're sleeping Nicole, which earned several nominations. We had the chance to ask her a few questions while she was in our studio.

She ABSOLUTELY loved her UGG boots in the 2000s and was wearing them in high school! Fun fact: One day, her boot got stuck in the main entrance door of her high school and the top tore off...She was so devastated and still thinks about the incident with bitterness to this day.

When asked how she would describe her current style, she said: minimalist, classic and comfortable. In her everyday life, Julianne is really nailing the Chalet style : comfort first, always! (Can’t say we don’t relate to that statement) One thing is sure, she perfectly embodies the iconic UGG’s indoor-meets-outdoor aesthetic. She really enjoyed the looks that we created, her favourite being the wool tank top/panty set with knitted roses. “For me, it was a perfect combination of elegance and audacity”. We agree, although everything seems to fit her like a glove!

“Icons“ celebrates the spirit of individuality and the iconic status of both the people and the shoes. But this word can be expressed and reflected in multiple ways, because its definition is shaped by the gaze of those who define it. For Julianne, someone iconic is someone that takes a risk and owns it. If she had to choose a style icon, it would be Emma Corrin.

Now what's coming up for the talented Julianne Côté in 2024?

A very busy year ahead! We will be able to see Julianne on the TV show Bien Joué! and also on the TV show Sorcières. Additionally, she is working on a few writing projects (surprise!). Looks like exciting things are on the horizon, so stay tuned.

Some people might be reluctant to Y2K fashion comebacks but UGG’s comfort is unbeatable and we think its success is well-deserved. Looking for either a warm boot or a cozy slipper that will last a long time with an iconic design that won’t go out of style?
